A Brief History Of Yeltech

P.J Yelland & Co (Pty) LTD was established in 1929 in Durban by our founder P.J Yelland who immigrated from the U.K. The main activity of the business was the sale of Drawing Office and Surveying Equipment.

In about 1942, an Electrical Switchgear division was formed, which later grew to become the dominant division within the company.

Yelland Drawing Office & Survey Centre was registered in 1963 in order to separate the two main operating activities.

P.J Yelland & Co (Pty) LTD changed its name to Yelland Technology Holdings LTD in 1987 and listed on the J.S.E

Yelland Technology Holdings LTD was taken over by BBT/Powertech in 1991. As part of the Yelland Group, and later BBT Group, the Survey and Drawing Office activities were never really part of a group culture.

February 1992, a management buy-out was therefore concluded. “It made sense to set up an independant operation to concentrate on enhancing the reputation which the company had built up over the years”, says Dave Beattie, Managing Director and grandson of P.J Yelland, the Company’s founder.

Yelland Drawing Office & Survey Centre Centre changed name to YELTECH (PTY) LTD in September 1993.
