ABOUT US
Not everything is as real as our chicken
Firstly, thank you for NOT allowing fake news to ruffle your feathers.
Fake News: WhatsApp Messages
First order of the day. There are a variation of text and voice note messages containing false information being shared on WhatsApp and other social media platforms. These messages falsely warn people not to purchase KFC products by connecting our chicken to illness and death.
The safety of our customers and team members is our top priority. We take food safety and the wellbeing of our customers very seriously. We work closely with our restaurant teams, regulators and supplier partners to make sure that the food produced in all KFC restaurants meets only the highest safety and quality standards. We can confirm that we have not received any queries related to the mentioned cases on any of our KFC customer care platforms. We are committed to giving our customers a Finger Lickin’ Good experience every time they visit our restaurants.
Fake News: KFC has been affected by the Listeriosis outbreak
We are NOT affected by the current Listeriosis outbreak in the country. Our chicken is safe to eat and locally sourced from facilities that are not affected by the outbreak. KFC does not use any of the affected products from Rainbow or any other supplier. Our food is freshly cooked just before we serve it, further ensuring its safety. Cooking at heat above 70 degrees kills listeriosis and our chicken is fried at temperatures well above this.
We can’t stop fake news, all we can do is make you aware of the facts. RCL Foods (Rainbow Chickens) is one of our poultry suppliers and we can confirm that none of our Finger Lickin’ Good chicken is sourced from Wolwehoek in Sasolburg.
For several months - as an added safety precaution - our suppliers have increased monitoring and testing of food and we can report that according to the testing, KFC continues to remain listeria monocytogenes free. Rigorous food safety procedures are in place at all our supply partners - these procedures - which include regular product and environmental testing, have been further strengthened in recent months.
We will continue to hold ourselves and supply partners to the highest quality and safety standards to bring our customers the great tasting chicken they know and love.
What is Listeriosis? - Listeriosis is a bacterial infection caused by eating food contaminated with the listeria monocytogenes bacterium. It can be found in the environment i.e. in water and in the soil. This means that animals and vegetables can become contaminated at any time, and as a result, anyone can get infected. However, it is important to note that the bacterium is transmitted by consuming infected food and is not passed on from person to person and although serious, it is a treatable and preventable disease.
