ABOUT US
Who we are
Capstone is a proudly independent South African seed company.
The personnel of Capstone Seeds S.A. have been involved in the Seed and Agricultural Industry for more than twenty five years. Capstone has experienced staff who manage production, research and marketing of seed and have established a network within South Africa and beyond its borders.
Capstone Seeds S.A. handles an extensive range of seed from pasture and forage seed to hybrid maize and sunflower seed - these seeds are adapted to a wide range of conditions. Capstone also handles varieties that have been bred by Agricultural Research Council (ARC), Nelson Genetics’ Dr Sydney Nelson, and others. The Company processes a wide range of seed for agricultural purposes, sourced from registered growers countrywide. Seed, produced in Africa, North and South America, Australia and New Zealand, is imported and exported to over 30 countries worldwide.
Each consignment of seed received at our factory is processed and tested internally in our in-house laboratory, as well as externally to ensure the seed complies with the buyer / importing countries requirements. The seed is then packaged and distributed.
The sales and administration offices of Capstone Seeds S.A. are strategically situated 120kms, or 55 miles, from the bustling port of Durban in Howick, a town in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, adjacent to the N3, a major arterial route to Johannesburg and the interior. The Capstone Seeds S.A. main factory is in Harrismith on the same N3 route but more conveniently situated for the producers and growers of the South African market. Capstone Seeds S.A. has a Research and Development office in Potchefstroom and has recently purchased a new warehouse located in Mooi River in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.
Capstone Seeds South Africa comprises thirty administration staff and forty factory staff between the Harrismith, Howick, Mooi River and Potchefstroom branches. Our Managing Director, Andrew Taylor handles the International Trade and Sales, and Manager Matt Bester deals with local sales within Southern Africa. Co-director Philip Taylor handles exports within Africa and internationally, while Charles Bennett, our General Manager, oversees the day-to-day running of the company and Mark Wattam handles the national sales. Heading our Potchefstroom Branch is Mr Thys Fourie, our highveld sales manager.
