ABOUT US

In life, one often would find the most beautiful gems in the most unexpected places. Nestled in the hills of paradise, shrouded in mystique and secluded in its luxury, lies one such gem. Panoramic scenery, botanical wonder and old school charm; it all comes together at the ArendsRus Country Lodge. Luxury accommodation, scenic wedding venue and divine restaurant, ArendsRus is indeed one of those very rare gems that surprise and astonish.

Our Brief History

ArendsRus was founded by the Joubert family on the 1st of March 2013. Our goal was to create a South-African country style lodge where our guest can experience proper South-African hospitality in a setting to match and enjoy nature without compromise on quality and style. Therefor you will find, in our wooden rooms a rustic elegance feel with things like Egyptian cotton linen, chocolates and sherry as a welcoming drink.

We opened the restaurant on the 15th of December 2013. Our chef who specializes in Traditional South African cuisine cooks the most amazing Sunday lunches. In Sept 2014 we opened the Lodge and got our 3 star grading. Our wedding venue was opened on the 1st of May 2016. We call it the “ArendsRus Barn Yard”.

Our Philosophy

At ArendsRus Country Lodge we are all about the beauty and wonder of nature around us, and we will do as much as possible to preserve its natural state. To fight for the cause of eco-friendly, we have a few procedures in place to do so.

Firstly we recycle. We make use of a company that recycles all our glass, plastic and tin waste. Recycling also helps to minimize pollution. Another way we try and reduce waste is by managing food waste. Having a restaurant on the establishment means that we have a lot of food waste that we need to do away with, but we also have the ideal location to do so, there are farms in the area that are happy to take the waste off our hands.

We save energy. When we use less energy, we save precious natural resources and cut down on pollution. We also use energy saving light bulbs. Using more energy efficient light bulbs reduces the amount of energy used by the light bulbs, and we all know how important it is to reduce energy usage here in South-Africa. Another way to preserve nature is to conserve water. Conservation is simply a protection from loss or waste. Therefore, water conservation activities reduce the demand for water, improve the efficiency in use and reduce losses and waste of water.

Guest Accommodation

Five en-suite double rooms and one honeymoon en-suite room offers stylish accommodation to any traveler. All rooms comes standard with:

• En-suite bath and shower facilities and a toilet friend system for an added luxury.
• Tea/Coffee stations
• In-room telephones
• Clock radio
• Heating
• Ceiling fans
• 800 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets for ultimate luxury and bathroom gift packs will ensure the comfort of our guests.

We provide added extra’s in the room such as:

• Extra blankets
• Electronic hot water bottles
• An umbrella
• A flashlight and a hair dryer to make sure our guests have all they need

Upon arrival our guests can enjoy a glass of sherry, chocolates and fresh fruit to help make them feel at home. We also have laundry and room service available.

Set in the fynbos gardens with glorious views, bird watching from each balcony is an added relaxation. If you would prefer to have a beautiful view to look at while enjoying your meal we provided two comfortable chairs and a table on all your balconies. The wooden cabin design gives a feel that you are truly somewhere in the wilderness.

There is also a shared lounge area with a Flat Screen TV, a DVD Player and full DSTV for our lodge guests to enjoy and is accessible 24 hours of the day. Here you can relax, listen to music, have a coffee, read a book from our personal collection or keep an eye on the little ones while they enjoy themselves in the swimming pool. We also have a selection of board and card games for our guests to enjoy.

Restaurant

We have a fully licensed Restaurant where you can enjoy breakfast and lunch in our charming traditional South African restaurant serving traditional South African cuisine and offering you a good old farm atmosphere. We stock only the freshest locally sourced food as well as the best local wine. Weddings, birthday parties, kitchen teas, baby showers and year end functions are also catered for.

Conveniently situated at the foot of the mighty Outeniqua mountains, ArendsRus peerless kitchen staff is dedicated to serving mouthwatering cuisine in a beautiful, comfortable setting. Throughout the week, a thorough A la carte menu offers enough choice to satisfy even the harshest of critics. Sundays, however, a buffet is available, where the customer is treated to the creative repertoire of the properly talented kitchen staff. These buffets would also be available for Christmas – what could be better than eclectic dining with loved ones, whilst enjoying unmatched scenery?

ArendsRus is capable of facilitating weddings, or, for that matter, any other function that requires a touch of class and beautiful scenery. With an expert wedding planner/function coordinator on hand, prospective clients can rest easy, knowing that their every need would be tended to, that their big day is in safe hands. The picturesque surrounding makes for gorgeous photography, whilst the kitchen staff will prepare a feast fit for royalty.

A refurbished barn we call the “ArendsRus Barn Yard” is available which includes dancing lights and a PA system. Our lovely rose garden is also the perfect place to take your wedding photos.
